Why You’ll Love This Burrata Caprese Salad

My summer plan is to enjoy soaking in the sunshine, dipping in my pool, sipping on an ice cold spritz, and a chomping on this fresh caprese salad! On repeat! I love me some caprese becuase it’s light, refreshing, and so easy to make. Today’s burrata caprese is a creamier version of the classic, but it still has all the quintessential characteristics we love.

Bite into juicy tomatoes, herbaceous fresh basil, and luscious balls of burrata! The tomatoes marinate in a simple caprese dressing before they’re tossed with the remaining ingredients so they’re soaked with bright flavor. Enjoy your caprese right off the fork, or piled on a fresh baguette. Either way, you’ll certainly want to complement it with a refreshing drink from our Summer of Spritz series!

The pineapple coconut spritz would be perfect for a tropical vibe, while the Lambrusco spritz will make you feel like you’re lounging in the Italian countryside!

FAQs

Why is it called Caprese?

This fresh and flavorful dish is thought to be named after the island of Capri in Italy where it was founded. Also, a fun fact is that the dish is white, red, and green, which represents the Italian flag. Whether that was intentional or not, it’s a fun added element!

What is the difference between burrata and mozzarella?

Mozzarella is firmer than burrata but tastes pretty similar! Burrata is made from a thin shell of mozzarella stuffed with soft and creamy stracciatella (a mixture of cream and mozzarella curds).

Do you eat burrata skin?

Absolutely! The “skin” is actually just mozzarella and you don’t want to miss out on that!
