Happy Halloween!

As far as I can remember my family has always been big on Halloween. Every year we have a cozy pumpkin carving night with the fam! My Mom sets up a huge graveyard in the front yard on Halloween night and my Dad always used to take me trick or treating until my entire pillow case was full.

I’ll be missing the trick or treaters this year but we decided to still get a little festive with some Halloween appetizers!

I love festive themed food as much as the next person but I also love it to be totally edible, ya feel me?! Too much food coloring and mysterious appetizers freak me out a little ha!

Today’s Halloween Charcuterie board is all about using great, festive, real, ingredients. It wouldn’t be a cheeseboard without a few pieces of delicious Roth Cheese. For our spooky cheeseboard I’m using a great blend of flavors and textures with Roth’s nutty and sharp Original Grand Cru (similar to Gruyere!), a spicy Jalapeno Havarti and their creamy Chèvre goat cheese as my ‘bleeding’ cheese!

Roth’s fresh goat cheeses are so reasonably priced at your local Walmart. You can also use this handy store locator to see where you can find all Roth Cheese varieties near you!

I use mostly darker fresh and dried fruits, cured meats and crackers to give the ambiance of the board a spookier vibe. After the board is set, come back in with some of your favorite items like spiders, webs, skeleton hands, etc. This is where you can get really crazy and fun!

How to make a Halloween Charcuterie Board

  1. Arrange Roth Cheese Original Grand Cru cheese slices, Roth Jalapeno Havarti slices and Roth Plain Chevre Goat Cheese in three different sections of a dark wood or black cheeseboard.
  2. Fold, roll or make triangles with your cured meat selections next to each pile of cheese. Begin to fill in the board with Blackberries, pomegranate chards (the juicier/bloodier) the better, sweet sapphire grapes, and persimmons in large gaps. Use the dark chocolate squares, fig and olive crisps and dried cherries as ‘fillers’ to the board to use up any blank space.
  3. Add a small, organic looking ‘drip’ of raspberry jam to the center of the goat cheese log. This is made to look as if it’s bleeding. Stab the center of the drip with a small sharp knife.
  4. Top the board with plastic spiders, google eyes and arrange spider webbing around the sides.

This is where the cheeseboard comes to life! Grab your plastic spiders, googley eyes, spiderwebs, skeleton hands, pumpkins and go to town! I love keeping everything ‘edible’ for Halloween themed food and sprinkling in festive items on top.
