Mexican Hot Chocolate
Guys, I am finally feeling the need for some cozy in my life.
I am currently sitting in Dallas at our air BnB and it is POURING, but I’m loving it. I was home for a solid, like ten days and MAN, did it feel so good. I took a Sunday and totally nested for Fall. All my cozy velvet and fur pillows are on the couch, I’ve got more chestnut candles than actual rooms to fill them in and I can’t seem to have a coffee without some pumpkin flavoring. It feels SO nice.
We are back on the travel game this weekend for a quick trip to Dallas. We are here to visit Jared’s brother and go to the Texas State Fair. Apparently the fair is a huge deal in Texas. We went to the state fair yesterday and while it was fun, Thursday was by far the best day!
We took a very unexpected detour and we to Magnolia! Omgaaaah! It was just as beautiful as I thought it would be! A lot friends that have gone before, told me it was smaller than they thought it would be but I thought it was wonderful. There is a big grassy area for running around and lounging as the center of the property. Surrounding this grassy area are food trucks, gardens, bakeries and a huge store. I spent far too much money than I should have but it was one of those ‘I might never come back’ moments so I just went for it #yolo.
If you don’t know if you’ll ever make it, visit the website! They pretty much sell everything on the website as they do in the store.
From what I hear, it is also quite a rainy and wet weekend back in California so I figured everybody needed a warm and cozy drink on this chilly Saturday. My aunt also told me it’s already snowing in Colorado (where I graduated college) so I think most of the country is in need of this Mexican hot chocolate!
Have you guys ever had Mexican hot chocolate?! It’s rich, sweet, spicy and perfect to warm up with for fall.
Mexican Hot Chocolate is an easy recipe made with rich dark chocolate, a little cayenne pepper for a kick and we’ve topped this rich hot cocoa with marshmallow fluff because not hot chocolage is complete without some marshmallows!
Mexican Hot Chocolate with Marshmallow Fluff
2 ½ Cups of Milk (almond or regular)
3.5 Oz of dark or bittersweet chocolate, chopped or grated +more for topping
1 Teaspoon of ground cinnamon
¼ Teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1-2 Tablespoons of brown sugar or maple syrup
In a small heavy bottom saucepan heat milk on medium high heat until just simmering. Remove from heat and add in chopped chocolate, cinnamon, cayenne, pepper, and brown sugar / maple syrup. Mix until melted.
Top with marshmallow fluff, chocolate shavings and cinnamon.
